Our History

The St. Bernard Choruses started around eight years ago in the summer of 1997. The chorus as a whole is made of of students from many different schools including, Arabi Elementary, C.F. Rowley, Joe Davies, Lacoste Elementary, Chalmette Middle, Trist Middle, Chalmette High, Andrew Jackson, Hannan, Holy Cross, Cabrini, Lake Castle, Holy Rosary, St. Robert, St. Mark, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, and St. Louise, as well as home schooled students. The chorus started out as two groups, The Youth Chorus and the Children's Chorus. They have grown to include one more group, The Show Chorus. The choruses have put on many great performances, but they are best known for thir amazing galas. They have put on five galas so far, including Cinemagic, Made in the U.SA., Disney Dazzle, 100 Years of Broadway,  "Our Song Will Live ... A 5 Year Gala Anniversary " and their most recent show  "Lost in the 50s". In addition to these gala's, the choruses also participate in many different activities around the city during Christmas, including the Preservation Society tour of Homes, Celebrating Community Christmas, their own Christmas concerts, and many other activities.

What are the Choruses?

The Children's Chorus

The Children's Chorus is made up of students in grades 3-7. The children do all of the main performances like the galas and the Christmas concerts.

The Youth Chorus

The Youth Chorus is comprised of students in grades 8-12. They perform at all major functions. In addition to the big performances, the Youth Chorus also takes part in smaller performances because of location or performance space provided.

The Show Chorus

The Show Chorus is a group of chorus members in grades 5-12, who go through an audition process to be in the group. The audition process includes judging on talent, ability, dedication, experience, and attitude. The Show chorus has traveled out of state to participate in many exciting venues including Disney's Magic Music Days in both Disneyworld in Florida and Disneyland in California. They also participated in The Show Choir Camps of America Summer Camp in Tiffin, Ohio and opened for a show as well as performed in a famous theme park in Branson, Missouri. The group has just returned from the All-Star Show Choir Camp in Rensselaer, Indiana where they had an amazing time and were able to showcase their talents along with many other campers. This group is made up of very responsible members who have to be able to represent both themselves and St. Bernard Parish when traveling.
